{"id":463,"date":"2011-09-16T13:24:25","date_gmt":"2011-09-16T13:24:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nzvegan.com\/?page_id=463"},"modified":"2011-09-16T13:24:25","modified_gmt":"2011-09-16T13:24:25","slug":"is-it-healthy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/nzvegan.com\/?page_id=463","title":{"rendered":"Is it healthy?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Well-planned vegan diets are recognised as healthy and nutritious by the world\u2019s leading mainstream dietetic associations:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dieticians of Canada\/<em>Les di\u00e9t\u00e9tistes du Canada <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dietitians.ca\/Nutrition-Resources-A-Z\/Fact-Sheet-Pages(HTML)\/Vegetarian\/Eating-Guidelines-for-Vegans.aspx \" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">state<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cA well planned vegan diet&#8230;is safe and healthy for pregnant and breastfeeding women, babies, children, teens and seniors.\u201d\u00a0 And \u201cA vegan eating pattern has many potential health benefits. They include lower rates of obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer. Other benefits include lower blood cholesterol levels and a lower risk for gallstones and intestinal problems.\u201d and \u201cA variety of plant foods eaten during the day can provide enough protein to promote and maintain good health.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The American Dietetic Association, in its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eatright.org\/about\/content.aspx?id=8357\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Position Paper on Vegetarian Diets<\/a>, Volume 2009,\u00a0 states:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u201cAppropriately planned vegetarian diets, <strong><em>including total vegetarian or vegan <\/em><\/strong>diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases&#8230;[and]&#8230;are appropriate for individuals during all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, and adolescence, and for athletes.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Note the phrase \u201cappropriately-planned\u201d appearing in the expert analyses.
